Neuro Design: Beyond Feng Shui

Neuro Design is the art and science of how we are affected visually and psychologically by design. For hundreds of years architects and scientist have been exploring the connection between ourselves, our spaces and the things we collect and why. The term Neuroarchitecture is also used to describe how our brain interacts with buildings.

In our home, how we design and style our space influences our emotions, and has a direct impact on our subconscious. The Chinese have known this for centuries and created Feng Shui so that people can live in harmony with nature and prosper. Feng Shui is based on how energy flows through a space and uplifts our energy.

Why Should We Care?

Neuro Design is more expansive. It explores how we feel, what motivates us, and how we react to certain stimuli. Knowing how to use the principles of Neuro Design will allow a person to excel at life.

Here are some aspects of your home which deeply affect your body, mind, and spirit,

  1. The colors used in your home have a vibration and frequency. Certain colors can stop us such as the color red because it is used in stop signs. While the color yellow is uplifting because it mimics sunlight. Texture is associated with how things feel when we touch them. Rough textures repel touch, while soft textures invite touch. (either use “touch” twice or take it out completely)
  2. Lighting can be used to highlight, or the absence of it can make a space unappealing.
  3. Sound alerts us when to run in the other direction, or the joy of hearing our favorite music.
  4. Culture plays a key role in the interiors we grew up with and the ones we acquire.

Neuro Design may seem complex and involved. Also where does one learn about the subject? Exploring the internet and reading Interior Design, or Feng Shui books can be confusing. Finding an expert can be difficult, as there are only a few people certified as Neuro Architects and Neuro Designers. But fear not, you can learn this on your own and start creating your own inspirational spaces.

The Art of Life Institute has been providing courses on Neuroarchitecture and Neuro Design since 2014. Classes are taught in the evening and weekends and are also open to the public. Graduates from Art of Life Institute’s certification program have gone on to create interior and exterior spaces for CEO’s, Fortune 500 companies and entrepreneurs, small business and homeowners.

Happy Chinese New Year

chinese-animated-gif

The Chinese New Year starts with the first New Moon of a New Year and ends with the Full Moon 15 days later. So, we celebrate the Chinese New Year for 2 entire weeks plus one day.

The family celebrates the Chinese New Year according to what is called the Lunar Year which means ‘Moon Year’. This celebration is considered a way to get rid of the old year and celebrate the new one with great thoughts, prayers and happy times.

15 days to celebrate

New Years Eve — We celebrate family and our ancestors on this day. The Chinese believe that it is our ancestors who ‘laid-the-foundation’ for our family as we know it today.

New Years Day — We  feast !!  You may call it a Thanksgiving feast that includes our family and what we are thankful for. On this day, many Chinese give read envelopes filled with money, and exchange small gifts .

2nd day — Dog day. I know, this sounds strange but we do lots of praying and are thankful for dogs, because the Chinese believe that the 2nd day is all dog’s birthday.

3rd Day and 4th Day — These days are the days all sons-in-law pay respect to their wives families. Fortunes are read, and

5th Day — This day is called, “Po Woo.” This is the day everyone stays home in anticipation of welcoming wealth into their house. No one visits each other or leaves their house because this will bring bad luck to both people. I call it a day of rest!

6th Day through 10th Day — This is the time of family feasting and fun. We go to temples, get together with lots of relatives and celebrate by enjoying our family.

11th Day through 12th Day — We invite friends to dinner and share our wealth.

13th Day — We spend time eating very simple food because all those dinners have become too much.

14th Day — We plan for our last big day by making lanterns and parade floats, streamers and dragons. We really look forward to this final day of celebration.

15th Day — This is Lantern Festival day. It is a festival with singing, lantern shows and dancing.

Tonight is New Years Eve

 Here are some Famous Taboos…………..

1. Do not use knives or scissors on New Year’s Day, as this may cut off your fortune.

2. Shooting off firecrackers on New Year’s Eve is the Chinese way of sending out the old     year and welcoming in the New Year.

3.On the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, every door in the house is opened, and       even windows.Opening the doors and windows  allows the old year to leave.

4.It is considered unlucky to greet anyone in their bedroom.   Everyone, even the sick,      should get dressed and sit in the living room.

5.Everyone should refrain from using foul language and bad or unlucky words. Negative   terms and the word “four” (Ssu), which sounds like the word for death, are not to be    uttered.

6.Death and dying are never mentioned and ghost stories are totally taboo. References    to the past year are also avoided as everything should be turned toward the New Year and a new beginning.

National Aura Day

1aura-clear

Held on the fourth Saturday of November, it is the only “aura” day on the calendar. Begun in 2002, November 26, 2016 will mark the fifteenth annual International Aura Awareness Day.

We are all energy beings, and carry with us a personal energetic field know as an ” Aura”. It surrounds each of us and changes according to our health, mood, and emotions. Some people can both feel and see auras. You may be one of them.

For those of us who cannot do this , you can learn how to energize your aura through visualization and meditation. Some ways to celebrate this special day are by reading about auras, talking about auras, and practicing visualizing and feeling auras.
